I2UD and the World Bank Sustainable Cities Initiative   SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE BALKANS I2UD and Co-Plan (Albania) are undertaking a Social Accountability Municipal Audit in five selected cities in Eastern Europe. The Social Audit aims to increase awareness of social accountability among city stakeholders and to strengthen the integrity of public services. The audit will assess the current social accountability mechanisms in place in the municipalities, as well as explore opportunities to develop new approaches and ICT tools that improve collaborative governance at the city level.

I2UD and our local partners have begun a new study funded by the Lincoln Institute focusing on the vulnerabilities of informal settlements to climate change in Condega (Nicaragua) and Cartagena (Colombia).   This recent UN-Habitat publication draws on the I2UD’s expertise in sustainable and pro-poor planning. The I2UD team prepared background papers on urban governance and municipal finance. You can download the guide here.   As part of its mission to transfer best practices in urban development, the I2UD has begun sharing brief cases of innovative urban planning programs, taken from our research.
