As part of our new initiative to expand the Institute’s activities related to climate change adaptation and resilience building in low-income communities and emerging countries, I2UD is pleased to introduce our aptly named summer intern, Barbara Summers! Barbara joins I2UD as a recent graduate from Cornell University with a Masters in Regional Planning and a concentration in International and Environmental Planning. Already providing crucial support to the office, she has helped with positioning the Institute on climate change adaptation and developed I2UD’s recently published Climate Change Adaptation and Resiliency Framework.
Prior to her work at I2UD, Barbara worked in New York City for the NYC Parks and Recreation Department and with the Regional Plan Association (RPA). At RPA, she conducted research on resilient energy policy and infrastructure for the New York City metropolitan area. Barbara previously worked with the non-profit, Greensburg GreenTown, to facilitate sustainable disaster recovery and promote environmental sustainability at the community level in both Greensburg, Kansas and Joplin, Missouri. She has also has worked as a consultant for the Trust for Public Land on the feasibility study for the QueensWay, a proposed greenway in Central Queens. She has extensive experience working with community members to build their capacity and knowledge of renewable energy. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Urban Sustainability from Bucknell University.
