Barbara Summers – Research Associate

Barbara is Research Associate with the Institute working on its climate change adaptation and resiliency agenda.

Prior to her work at I2UD, she worked in New York City for the NYC Parks and Recreation Department and with the Regional Plan Association (RPA). At RPA, she conducted research on resilient energy policy and infrastructure for the New York City metropolitan area. Barbara previously worked with the non-profit, Greensburg GreenTown, to facilitate sustainable disaster recovery and promote environmental sustainability at the community level. She has also worked as a consultant for the Trust for Public Land on the feasibility study for the QueensWay, a proposed greenway in Central Queens and promoting indigenous community based ecotourism in southwest China. She has extensive experience working with community members to build their capacity and knowledge of renewable energy.

Barbara is a graduate of Cornell University with a Masters in Regional Planning and a concentration in International and Environmental Planning. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Urban Sustainability from Bucknell University.
