Tunis, Tunisia | Evaluation of the Rehabilitation of the Hafsia Quarter of the Medina of Tunis

World Bank, 1993 to 1994

CUDS collaborated with the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Tunis Medina (ASM) and the Tunis Municipality in assessing the impacts of infrastructure improvements funded by the World Bank over the 1983 to 1993 decade. In fostering the rehabilitation of the historic center, a project assessment document based on the research was prepared for distribution by the World Bank at the conference on cultural heritage held in Florence in October 1999. CUDS and the ADM  continued their collaboration documenting the effectiveness if the municipality’s initiatives since the early 1990s and in particular its land management strategy and the renovation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. The ASM provided the design guidelines for the rehabilitation of the Medina as well as the design and supervision of restoration projects.
