  • Documenting particular social, economic, and environmental conditions that challenge the integration and development of the Historic Center of Mexico City as part of the living city.
  • Identifying physical deficiencies, such as infrastructure needs, that must be addressed in any future development plan for the Center.
  • Identifying the interest and capabilities of key players in the Historic Center that can contribute to the revitalization of the area.
  • Identifying the key elements and structure that should be considered in developing a strategy.

Staff conducted a case study identifying the place and function of the Historic Center within Mexico City’s multi-nuclear structure and documented particular social, economic, and environmental conditions that challenge the integration and development of the historic areas as part of the living city. Through field visits to Mexico City, we documented existing initiatives and the roles of key players working on the revitalization of the area. In addition, the study identified infrastructure and physical needs that must be addressed in future plans, as well as the capabilities of key stakeholders in revitalizing the area.
