Szczecin, Poland | Community Based Development Strategies
USAID, 1997 to 1998
The Unit is working with city officials in Szczecin to institutionalize community-based organizations within city-led neighborhood revitalization strategies. The objective it to identify a supportive framework and strategy that promotes citizen involvement in the planning and implementation of neighborhood revitalization activities, especially in communities experiencing disinvestment. Through a review of the institutional and financial support that can be provided, the project will identify a range of activities that can be undertaken by organizations from street level planning groups to larger-scale NGOs. Through workshops and training, city officials will be capable of highlighting changes necessary in the legal/institutional and financial framework to make a community based development strategy work. The project will recommend a pilot project(s) and work plans that outline immediate and longer-range activities.
