Elda Solloso, Senior Research Affiliate

B.A. (Universidad Complutense De Madrid), M.U.P. (Harvard University)

Elda is a Senior Research Affiliate with the Institute focusing on the promotion of sustainable urban development.

As a sociologist and urban planner, she brings an understanding of planning that includes working hand in hand with clients as partners; reaching-out to stakeholders; strategic analysis synthesized through simple, targeted messages that can leverage consensus among project partners; finding synergies among urban sectors; and linking planning and implementation through practical, incremental, high-impact approaches. She has worked in multi-disciplinary teams and has experience managing the work of sector specialists and integrating it as part of municipal and neighborhood-based development plans and strategies.

Elda has assisted international organizations, regional and municipal governments, development agencies, non-for-profit organizations and private firms in South Asia, Western Europe, Middle-East, East Asia and Central America. Most recently, she assisted seven Belizean municipalities to develop town development strategies through a World Bank-sponsored project. She has authored background chapters for UN-Habitat’s 2012 “Urban Planning for City Leaders.” As a Senior Analyst at Design Convergence Urbanism, she worked on local development plans and studies for several Spanish local authorities. Previously, Elda worked as a planning associate at the World Bank Energy and Infrastructure Unit for South Asia, and provided recommendations on land use, growth management and municipal management plans.
